"I don’t even know where to begin, but in a nutshell hiring Danika was the best decision we made in the entire wedding planning process. Danika is the sweetest, and her passion for photography really shows in her work. We were absolutely blown away by our *abundant* photo gallery from our wedding. Highly HIGHLY recommend."

Wedding & Elopement FAQs

Understanding My Style

Understanding My Style

What's the difference between documentary and editorial wedding photography?

Documentary wedding photography is about capturing things as they actually happen. Candid moments, real emotions, the day unfolding naturally. Editorial wedding photography involves more direction, with an eye toward creating intentional, styled images.

My approach combines both. I work primarily as a documentary wedding photographer in Kelowna, letting the day lead, with a light editorial touch during portrait time to make sure you have beautiful, intentional images alongside the candid ones.

Will you tell us how to pose, or is it more natural than that?

More natural than posed. For the majority of your wedding day, I'm documenting what's happening around you without directing it. During portrait time, I use movement-based prompts like walking, laughing, and talking.

Do you offer 35mm film photography for weddings?

Yes, and it's included in every wedding and elopement package. There's an artistry, playfulness, and honesty to film that I love, and it produces images that feel timeless.

Can we see a real wedding gallery so we know what to expect?

Yes! Send me an email and I'm happy to share a few recent full galleries so you know exactly what to expect.

Planning Your Day

Planning Your Day

How far in advance should I book my wedding photographer?

For weddings in the Okanagan, I'd recommend booking 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for peak summer and fall dates, which fill up quickly. That said, if your date is sooner, it's always worth reaching out. I occasionally have availability for shorter lead bookings.

Do you help with wedding day timelines?

Yes, every wedding package includes a wedding guide with timeline tips and suggestions, and I'm happy to work through your specific timeline with you in the lead-up to your day.

Getting the timeline right makes a real difference to how the day feels and flows, and I have a lot of experience making sure portrait time, family photos, and coverage all work together without feeling rushed.

What's the ideal portrait time on a wedding day?

Golden hour is hard to beat. In the Okanagan, the light in the hour before sunset is warm, soft, and incredibly flattering, and it makes for some of the most beautiful wedding photos.

If your schedule allows for a short portrait session around that time, even just 10 minutes, I'd always recommend it. That said, I work with whatever light and timing your day gives us and I'm experienced shooting in all conditions.

Do you take family photos at the wedding?

Yes, always. Family portraits are an important part of the day, and I'll work with you on your timeline to make sure there's dedicated time for them. Come prepared with a list of the combinations you want, and I'll move through them efficiently so we can get back to celebrating.

Can I share a shot list with you?

I don't work from a shot list, but I'd love to see a Pinterest board or mood board beforehand since it helps me get a feel for what you're drawn to. For family photo combinations, absolutely send me a list and we'll work through them so you can get back to celebrating.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

We photograph in the rain. Some of the most beautiful and memorable wedding photos happen on overcast or rainy days. The light is soft, the colours are rich, and honestly it makes for great photos. I come prepared for all weather and I'll work with whatever the Okanagan decides to throw at us.

Elopements

Elopements

Can we elope somewhere in the Okanagan?

Absolutely, and I'd love that. The Okanagan is genuinely one of the most beautiful places to elope in BC, with lakeside settings, vineyards, mountain views, and everything in between.

Some of my favourite elopement locations include areas around Kelowna, Naramata, Penticton, and Lake Country. Get in touch and I can share some ideas based on the kind of day you're imagining.

Do you travel for destination weddings or elopements?

Yes. Beyond the Okanagan and Greater Vancouver area, I'm available for destination weddings and elopements anywhere in BC, across Canada, and internationally.

Destination travel costs vary depending on location and are discussed at the time of inquiry. If you're planning something somewhere special, get in touch and let's talk about it.

Add-Ons

Add-Ons

Do you offer engagement sessions, and are they included?

Yes, I offer engagement sessions and I highly recommend them. Whether you're based in the Okanagan or Vancouver, I'm there multiple times a year and would love to make it work. Couples who've done an engagement session beforehand are more relaxed during portraits, and it's a great chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. Get in touch to add one to your package.

After the Wedding

After the Wedding

How many wedding images will we receive?

The number of images depends on how many hours of coverage you have and what your wedding day is like. A larger guest list with a lot happening throughout the day will naturally result in more images.

As a general guide, you can expect somewhere between 500 and 800 images for a full wedding day.

When & how do we receive our images?

Wedding galleries are delivered within 4 months after your wedding day, and you'll receive a sneak peek within a week.

Your complete gallery arrives in a beautiful online gallery where you can share with family and friends, download in high resolution, and order prints and albums directly.

Booking

Do you require a deposit to hold our date?

Yes. To officially secure your date I require a 50% deposit along with a signed contract. Your date is not held until both are received.
